We’re sick of working for a ridiculous wage with only tendon-stretching, muscle-ache and early retirement to look forward to. We’re sick of women getting a lower wage than men and we are really goddamn sick of the politicians that are supposed to be on ordinary people’s side having long since turned into pseudoliberals and sent those of us who can’t find a job to Malmö’s own daycare center for adults: the employment office.

Politics to us isn’t something that mainly happens in dusty buildings of parliament or dull TV-debates. Politics is about power, and now we are going to use our strengths! By taking over the streets and filling them with what we stand for we want to focus on a Malmö that is far from the politicians polished facade. We want to focus on a Malmö of conflict where union activists are peppersprayed by police, where homeless people freeze to death on the streets while politicians pay millions for christmas lights, a Malmö where police force kids up against the wall for hours without reason and then have the nerve to lie about it afterwards. A Malmö where we stand up for one another and realize that only by working together can we ever change society!

This will be a creative action where you aren’t relegated to being a spectator but is rather welcomed to take place. Do you want to write out your crappy boss name in pink all over the street? Are you in a band who want to arrange something? Do you want to tear open the asphalt to plant seeds and grow crops? Do you want to bring your couch? Do you want to rap? Do you want to dance to your revolution? Do you want to meet new friends? Do you want to have a political discussion? Do you want to hand out crayons for drawing on the streets? Do you want to shout poetry in a mike? Do you want to sit at home and wait for the politicians to do something for you, or is it time to take back what is ours?

We’re going to challenge the power at it’s core and the entire world is invited!

International Action Day «Freedom not fear – Stop the surveillance
mania!» on 11 October 2008

A broad movement of campaigners and organizations is calling on
everybody to join action against excessive surveillance by governments
and businesses. On 11 October 2008, concerned people in many countries
will take to the streets, the motto being «Freedom not fear 2008#187;.
Peaceful and creative action, from protest marches to parties, will take
place in many capital cities.

Surveillance mania is spreading. Governments and businesses register,
monitor and control our behaviour ever more thoroughly. No matter what
we do, who we phone and talk to, where we go, whom we are friends with,
what our interests are, which groups we participate in – «big brother»
government and «little brothers» in business know it more and more
thoroughly.

The resulting lack of privacy and confidentiality is putting at risk the
freedom of confession, the freedom of speech as well as the work of
doctors, helplines, lawyers and journalists.

The manifold agenda of security sector reform encompasses the
convergence of police, intelligence agencies and the military,
threatening to melt down the division and balance of powers.

Using methods of mass surveillance, the borderless cooperation of the
military, intelligence services and police authorities is leading
towards new borders and walls, thus building true «Fortresses» in Europe
and on other continents, directed against refugees and different-looking
people but also affecting, for example, political activists, the poor
and under-priviledged, and sports fans.

People who constantly feel watched and under surveillance cannot freely
and courageously stand up for their rights and for a just society. Mass
surveillance is thereby threatening the fabric of a democratic and open
society.

Mass surveillance is also endangering the work and commitment of civil
society organizations.

Surveillance, distrust and fear are gradually transforming our society
into one of uncritical consumers who have «nothing to hide» and – in a
vain attempt to achieve total security – are prepared to give up their
freedoms. We do not want to live in such a society!

We believe the respect for our privacy to be an important part of our
human dignity. A free and open society cannot exist without
unconditionally private spaces and communications.

The increasing electronic registration and surveillance of the entire
population does not make us any safer from crime, costs millions of
Euros and puts the privacy of innocent citizens at risk. Under the reign
of fear and blind actionism, targeted and sustained security measures
fall by the wayside, as well as tackling peoples’ actual daily problems
such as unemployment and poverty.

In order to protest against security mania and excessive surveillance we
will take to the streets in capital cities all in many countries on 11
October 2008. We call on everybody to join our peaceful protest.
Politicians are to see that we are willing to take to the streets for
the protection of our liberties.

You can find the latest information on the protest marches and the list
of participating cities at our website:
http://wiki.vorratsdatenspeicherung.de/Freedom_Not_Fear_2008.

Our demands

1. Cutback on surveillance

- abolish the blanket logging of our communications and locations (data
retention)
- abolish the blanket collection of our biometric data as well as RFID
passports
- abolish the blanket collection of genetic data
- abolish permanent CCTV camera surveillance and automatic detection
techniques
- scrap funding for the development of new surveillance techniques
- no blanket registration of all air travellers (PNR data)
- no information exchange with the US and other states lacking effective
data protection
- no secret searches of private computer systems, neither online nor offline
- no blanket surveillance and filtering of internet communications (EU
Telecoms-Package)

2. Evaluation of existing surveillance powers

We call for an independent review of all existing surveillance powers as
to their effectiveness and harmful side-effects.

3. Moratorium for new surveillance powers

After the homeland armament of the past few years we demand an immediate
hold to new homeland security laws that further restrict civil liberties.

4. Guaranteeing freedom of expression, dialogue and information on the
Internet

- Ban the installation of filtering infrastructure on ISP networks.
- Only independent and impartial judges may request the removal of
Internet content.
- Create a full right to quote multimedia, today indispensable to public
debate in democracies.
- Protect common internet places of expression (participatory sites,
forums, comments on blogs) today threatened by inadequate laws
encouraging self-censorship (chilling effect)

Two of our comrades, Polys Georgiadis and Vaggelis Hrisohoidis were seized for involvement in the kidnapping of the president of northern Greece industrialists, and owner of ALUMIL industries.
below is a report circulated via the anarchist black cross network, more on the case once we establish some more stable communication with the two (after they move to some prison):

On 20th of august 4 people got arrested in Greece on the accusation
kidnapping with a large ransom being paid.
The people arrested are
Polikarpos Georgiadis, Vasilis Palaiokostas, Vagelis Hrisohoides and one
other, of whom the rest of the group has taken distance from because of
his behaviour.
On the 21st 4 other people got arrested for also playing a
smaller role in the kidnapping.
The person being kidnapped some months ago
concerns the president of the union for heavy industry owners (employers
syndicate) Georgos Mylonas, who not long ago caused some fuss over his
sayings about working harder and longer in the factories.
He was released
after sum of 10 million euro’s was paid, arranged by his wife.
Media and
police claim this money was meant for freeing Vasilis’ brother from
prison; Nikos Palaiokostas.
Pictures in the bourgeois press show the large
variety of ammunition, Kalashnikovs, an RPG, explosive devices,
bulletproof vests and fire brigade uniforms that were found at the arrest.
Stories of the amount of money being found back change every day.
Police
says that a big part of the coupons were marked and at about 150 different
places they found them back.

The history and traditions of Vagelis, Vasilis and Polikarpos in this
case, but also of many other strikes against the exploitation and slavery
of people, is important for the context of this kidnapping and social
rebellion in general reality.
Polikarpos and Vagelis are dear comrades in
the anarchist scene since many years and have been very active.
Polikarpos
was sent to prison before on the 16th of April 2004, accused for attempted
arson with an ignitable device against the vehicle of a private security
company.
The police tried to charge him with attempted arson and the
possession of explosive devices, but could not proof anything.
He stayed
in pre-detention for one year and was found guilty anyway.
He got out for
having served already the one year prison sentence he finally got.
During
his time in prison he got to know Vasilis Palaiokostas.
The bourgeois
media accused him a the time of being a bank robber as well, and from this
point of view it fits them well to claim these days that Vasilis had
“selected Polikarpos for a conspiracy in setting his brother, Nikos, free
from prison”.
These two brothers are well known “legends” in the country
for decades.
Since the fall of the Ottoman empire in 1821 Greece knows a very popular
and great tradition of social and class robberies, as a respond to poverty
and exploitation.
These people would take back the money of the rich, the
authorities, the exploiters, and usually hide in villages, with the help
of the people; they would refuse to help the police and protect them from
the authorities.
The rebels always had strong connections with the people
and provided for their communities for instance in forms of financial
support for education, medication and protection on their turn from the
police.
In this reality, the two brothers Vasilis and Nikos, and still many
others, who grew up in a very poor family, couldn’t take any longer the
exploitation and slavery of themselves as well as of the people around
them in this society, and thus have been living their lives as social
rebels for the last 30 years.
They made tens of bank robberies, car thefts
and escapes from prison, but never had fancy clothes, drove expensive cars
or lived in luxury houses.
Indeed have once thrown the money back on the
floor of the bank, because that little amount wasn’t what they needed.
Everything was always send to where it was needed and shared with the
people who protected them, hided them and still won’t say a word to the
police about their comrades.
During all these years they’ve been
underground, while being traced by the police from time to time as well,
either resulting in a successful escape by stolen cars, or unfortunate
prison time.
Always escaped from it however, with the loving and
spectacular help of the other brother.
Throughout the 80’s they did many robberies, until Nikos ended up in
prison in 1988, but was released from it by his brother only a few days
later, by throwing a rope over the wall of the prison outside.
Two years
later, in February 1990 he was arrested again.
One month later Vasilis was
unluckily caught with a friend, while trying to rescue his brother.
This
was supposedly the first time they were both in prison at the same time.
In December 1990 though, Nikos escapes from Korydallos prison in Athens
after a huge uprising in the prison, cops have then been looking for him
for the next 16 years, until they caught him by accident when he was in a
car crash in 2006. He has not been out ever since.
In 1991 Vasilis manages
to escape from Halkida prison. In 1992 he robs a bank.
In 1995 they rob a
bank together in Athens.
In December 1995 they’re being accused of having
kidnapped the president of a “halvas” factory, Haitoglou.
They supposedly
let him go after four days and 750.000 euro’s ransom.
The
minister of public order send out a warrant, on tv, radio and posters,
with their picture and a reward of also exactly 750.000 euro’s.
In 1996
Vasilis was traced by the cops in Korfu, but managed to escape from them
by taking a car.
Two years later the same situation appeared in Yanitsa,
and again in May 1999.
In 2003 Nikos makes a spectacular escape with a
helicopter.
In 2006 Nikos robbed a bank in Veria by bicycle and got away
because the masses of police out there were completely preoccupied with
the protection president visiting the streets of Veria at that very
moment.
In September of that year he had the car accident and got locked
up again after many years of living on the run and in hiding.

The police found out about the identity and whereabouts of the group
because the fourth men, was spending large sums of cash money on luxury
cars in Crete.
Also because Georgos Mylonas had stated to the police that
during his kidnapping he had heard airplanes flying over very frequently.
With the arrest of the man in Crete they found out he rented a house in
Souroti, a quiet area near Thessaloniki, close to the airport.
Police
claims that with 14 special force cops, and 10 civil cops (it’s very
likely there were way more), they surrounded the house in Souroti.
Both
Vasilis and Polikarpos were arrested there, where they had also kept
Mylonas and the artillery.

On the 22nd of August they’ve all been brought to the prosecutor, who gave
them 3 days to prepare the defense, and will decide over the continuing of
their pre-trial detention.
they face 9 charges (3 felonies, 6
misdemeanors).
After the trial he was dragged by two big elite troop cops
to the press, eager to take a picture of Greece’s most wanted, and proudly
showed them what they caught; the nightmare of every system that imposes
law, control and punishment on the people.

Who are the Action Network?

During 17th -21st the European Social Forum will be hosted by Malmo, an event planned to give social movements and radical organizations all over Europe the opportunity to enter into dialogue with each other. More than 20,000 people are expected to attend this five-day Forum which will offer seminars, workshops, and art events, including music, all with the slogan ‘Another Europe is Possible.’ Simultaneously, various kinds of demonstrations, mass activities and street events will take place, some as part of the official ESF, but others outside and independent of this. The ESF 2008 Action Network is intended to co-ordinate these organizations – from other parts of Sweden and Europe – that wish to work independently and get involved in mass activities and other events in Malmo during the ESF period. The purpose is especially to help different groups communicate, and to help organize their mobilization. The ESF 2008 Action Network is independent of the official ESF, politically as well as economically, and all participants in the Network will little by little shape its slant and aims. The mass activities won’t take place in opposition to the official Forum, but on the other hand, they won’t be in the least committed to that political agenda or social practice which the wealthiest and most powerful forces no doubt will express through the official ESF. Quite the contrary: we know that many of the thousands of activists expected to travel to Malmo because of the ESF will welcome the chance to turn their own political opinions into action through mass activities. Within the Network, there will be time and place for a wide spectrum of different kinds of practice. Respecting each other’s methods, but without compromises, people will act together, or at least during the same days, towards our common goals.

Invitation for participation in the Anti-capitalist Action Block run by Action Network on September 20th 2008.

The major demonstration during ESF in Malmo will take place on Saturday September 20th at 12.00. The demonstration will be divided into different blocks, where Action Network has organized the Anti-capitalist Action Block, which has a freedom of tendencies. It means that the block is open for participation for all groups who consider themselves anti-capitalist and revolutionary.

Why an anticapitalist block?
The Nordic countries have a long tradition of a mutual agreement between the state, the political parties and the unions. This has caused us to forget the political disobedience that characterized our movement one hundred years ago. We have chosen to organize an anti-capitalist block because we do not believe in parliamentary reforms or lobbying as a strategy for change. The cooperation between states and major corporations to keep the capitalist order in place needs to be overthrown by unity and cooperation between the oppressed peoples of the world. Change does not come from above- It´s organized from below.
For more information about the planned activities by Action Network during ESF 2008. See further on our homepage www.esf2008action.net
Resources needed

The five days of action will need a lot of resources. We ask for support to make the make the best possible out of the actions. Do you have a travelling kitchen that can provide food for many people? Have you worked with Trauma Support/Out of Action areas? Do you have ideas for cultural events in the evenings?
Practical information Due to a shortage of facilities we have to direct you to the official ESF who will provide sleeping places for the participants of the forum. We will focus our resources to provide accommodation for people with children or other special needs. There will also be an area close to Malmo where sleeping places for a limited number of people will be available. This place is also recommended if people need to take a break from the actions for a shorter time.
Hope to see you in Malmo in September!

In November 2007 Andrei was given a 3 year prison sentence for participation to a fight, which took place in June of the same year. He was fighting with a Nazi, and wounded him with a screwdriver which Nazi dropped during a fight.

(A sharpened screwdriver is a weapon of choice of many Russian Nazis – against good opponent it is not as good as a knife, but it is better for finishing a hapless victim as it punctures tissue more deep). Russian mainstream media used the case in order to discredit anti-fascist movement.
Journalists supported claim of the Nazi that he was picked up as a random victim, and was not a Nazi but non-political goth, as he claimed in the court:

Here is another photo where you may spot his “gothic” tattoo:

Hands off our climate

The European Social Forum is coming to Malmö, Sweden!

From September 17th to 21st 2008 the European Social Forum (ESF) is being held in Malmö, in the south of Sweden. More than 20 000 people are expected to participate in the forum, which is a meeting place for social movements in Europe. During five days seminars and workshops will be mixed with culture, music, activism and demonstrations. But the forum is so much more than a meeting of a couple of days – now we in the Nordic countries and the rest of Europe have the chance to put forward alternatives and visions for the future. It is you and your organization that decide what will be the content of the forum, the programme is created from below by all who want to participate in the process. Many questions will be dealt with: from workers’ rights, equality, public service, development of democracy, resistance to war and racism, to global solidarity and a change in climate strategy. Because ESF is about changing society – not just having discussions. The European Social Forum is a unique arena for exchange of experiences, discussions, network building and planning of common initiatives and campaigns.
